Antimony

Element number 51 isn’t one many people have encountered in their everyday life… well, not in its pure form at least. Antimony-lead alloys, which are tougher than pure lead, are used in car batteries, bullets, and other places where strengthened lead is necessary. In history, drinking vessels called “antimonials” took advantage of antimony’s toxicity. Wine steeped in antimoials would take in some of the antimony in the vessel, inducing vomiting in the person unfortunate enough to have been prescribed the treatment.

My sample, being sealed in glass, won’t cause any such symptoms.

An ampule containing 2g of antimony.
